The “Record Hop” happens every Tuesday. It’s FUN, and the music is DJ'd for swing dances of all types - lindy, east coast, west coast, and more.
Some weeks will have a focus, such as the West Coast Extra or the Lindy Extra, so sign up for the mailing list to get announcements of the DJ and theme for each week. Click HERE to sign up.
FAQ
WHO: Dancers of all ages and abilities. It helps to have some background in Lindy Hop, East Coast (Jitterbug), or West Coast Swing, but if you don't, come anyway and we'll help you out.
WHAT: A DJ'd dance to a mix of swing music. The normal mix includes music of various tempos and eras: classic swing tunes, blues and contemporary, and some good old fifties rock n' roll. Dancers of all abilities and a range of ages show up and we all dance with one another. Feel free to ask a stranger to dance - that's how you get to know folks.
WHEN: Tuesdays from 8-10 or so PM. There's a $3 cover charge, but it gets you a half-price drink of any kind. We do encourage everyone to purchase at least one additional drink (non-alcoholic is fine) in order to maintain the good relationship we have with the bar. Don’t forget to tip the bartender!
WHERE: Pixel Lounge, 107.5 Dryden Road, down the alleyway, in Collegetown.
WHY: To HAVE FUN, of course!
Shoes are your choice, but not all shoes work well for dancing on the wood floor. Street shoes can bring in gravel and dirt, so it's best to have a dedicated pair of dance shoes that you carry with you. If you have questions feel free to ask us.
Directions:
From the commons:
Take Buffalo Street west, up the hill, until it ends at Eddy Street.
Take a left on Eddy Street, then keep right as it bends around to become Dryden Road.
There will be a Subway on the right, next to a largish alleyway. Pixel is located down this alleyway, but don’t drive down it. The parking down there is for the apartment complex only.
From Cornell campus:
From Campus Road, take either a left or a right (there is only one way to turn) onto Central Ave so that Anabel Taylor Hall is on your right.
Continue on Central Ave until you pass the Law Library and the Schwartz Center. Make a right at the stoplight onto Dryden Road. The Subway next to the alleyway will be on your left.
Parking:
This can be tricky. There are metered spots on Central Avenue and Dryden Roads past the stoplight. There is also a parking garage on Dryden road but they will charge you. You can also park on Buffalo Street and that surrounding area. There is almost always plenty of parking around, you just have to learn where to look.
